Since February 2000, Made and husband Komang have been building their dream: A traditional-style Balinese warung restaurant where people from each of the world's cultures can feel welcome. To Made and Komang, this means home cooked meals, served at a reasonable price, in a peaceful setting.
But this wasn't always part of the plan. After secondary
school, Made considered a career in law enforcement and expected she'd
have a hectic life in the city. Meanwhile, Komang had started a
career as a chef at a
local hotel in Ubud. But Made never forgot her own love for
cooking. She found herself cooking often for village ceremonies,
weddings, and family events and met her husband-to-be. It wasn't long
before they both decided to take the chance on a restaurant of their
own. The rest... is history.
Style
As a traditional Balinese warung-style restaurant, seating is in the
open air, but all tables are sheltered from the rain and Bali's blazing
afternoon sun. As is also traditional, the restaurant is on the
property
of our family home. We are pleased to accommodate large parties
at one of our long dining tables, but individuals dining alone will
feel just as comfortable (and might even leave with a couple new
acquaintances!) We are happy to provide wifi internet for our
customers and will do our best to accommodate any dietary
restrictions. Of course, children are always welcome.
Well-Being
The health and well-being of our family, staff, and guests is our
top priority, plain and simple. To that end, we only use boiled
or bottled water in the preparation of vegetables, meats, and other
food items. Almost all of our dishes are made-to-order in our
open kitchen, so feel free to greet the chef while he/she prepares your
meal! We also know that many of our guests visit us from places
where Balinese and Indonesian cuisine is not that common -- often they
are visiting Bali for the first time. If you have concerns about
unfamiliar flavors or prefer your food less spicy, just ask us.
We also have a number of western-style specialties that even locals
enjoy ordering as a change-of-pace.
